Maggie's B-day/Fathers' Day

On Sunday, my baby turned two.  Of course, we'd already celebrated with a birthday party, and with it being Fathers' Day, she didn't get a whole lot of special attention.  We did open a special care package from Idaho, and after dinner celebrated with cookies and blowing out a candle. But the focus was definitely on the daddies.  We had everyone over for dinner and took some fun pictures afterward.

Maggie is a morning person!  Here she is, first thing, with her lovey.

Kate got a Barbie car from my parents!  How come I never had one of these?!

Kate and Maggie's Princess Party

We threw the girls a party yesterday at the playground at Leasburg Dam State Park to celebrate Kate turning four and Maggie turning two (next week).  It was a fun little party with family and friends, a pinata, some yummy food, and a delicious cake. The only snafu of the day?  Upon arriving at the park (15 miles outside of town), realizing that I'd forgotten a bat, or anything else, to hit the pinata with.  In-laws to the rescue!  They'd already left home, but were able to stop by the home of their "fence guy," who found three pinata-smacking options for them: a broomstick, a small steel pole, and a regular ol' wooden stick, which is what we used.

Kate was much more excited than this picture shows to open a princess dress!

Totally homemade (and totally rich) vanilla cake with strawberry cream cheese frosting.

Cranky Maggie was soooo not into blowing out the candles.

More cranky Maggie.  And a Jack who, despite the sweltering heat, still wanted to sit on my lap.  This is my aggravated selfie.

Reflections on the Patio

So, you know how sometimes you see a perfect photo op with your kids, and you run to get the camera, but then by the time you get back, the opportunity is gone?  It happens all the time to me!  Luckily, just a few days ago was not the case.  We were in the backyard spraying a few things with the garden hose, the patio got all wet, and the kids started tromping through it.  The sun was setting at the perfect angle for some great shots.
