One last hurrah

We woke up this morning to a good foot of snow, the most we've had in Mono City this entire winter. Our front porch:

Daddy shovels a path from the front door to the driveway. We get to watch from inside.
Check this out, Mom...

No fun at all when you have to go potty outside... Casey is always the first to brave the snow. But it only takes her a minute or so to plunge right in.

In June Lake, looking at June Mountain, where we go to church!

From the top of Conway Summit. We live down there somewhere...

Near the Virginia Lakes area, at the top of Conway Summit:

To Daddy, shoveling is a dreaded chore. To Jack, it is a marvelous activity.

Uh oh... time to go in!

Just what we needed...

There was some gloominess in the gray sky this St. Patty's Day morning, but Jack and I, we needed OUT. A picnic at the nearby Mono Lake park, with its brand-new playground, was our morning stop. Little man would "picnic" by plopping himself on our blanket, chomping on a bite of cereal or string cheese, and then running off to the slide while still chewing. And, oh yes, he did wear the requisite green... although I forgot when dressing myself!

Sick house

Phew! Have not had the energy to even attempt to put pen to paper (or fingers to the keyboard) the past week. Brian came home sick from his trip, having spent both nights away chasing down errant freshman girls who were curious about the duct tape their savvy assistant principal had placed over the boys' doors. Soon after that Jack developed a horrible cough and runny nose. Brian recovered after staying home from school a day, but poor Jack suffered through several nights of coughing himself into a miserable awakeness. I finally took him to the doctor on Friday. It was worse than I'd thought... after listening to him breathe, the doctor declared him on the brink of hospitalization! The only thing keeping him out, she said, was his general healthy demeanor. We were sent home with a nebulizer, four medications, and a follow-up appointment for yesterday. Albuterol, amoxycillin, prednisolone, and azithromycin have all become common words in our household. Jack is still "on the edge," according to the doctor yesterday, and must go in again on Monday. In the middle of all this, of course, I developed a burning sore throat and a nose that won't stop running. Aack! It's not fun. Hopefully things will get better soon.

Daddy Diary: Day 2

Dear Daddy,

Today, Mommy and I spent an exciting morning in Mammoth. We hit up all the usual spots: Vons, the dry cleaners, the library. I even got a new "Thomas" book at the bookstore.

This afternoon, when I woke up from my nap, Devan was here! I was shy at first, but within a couple minutes we were running all over the house together. I say "yes" to everything Devan says, even if it's "OWWW! You're HURTING me!!!" I keep trying to show him a "W-upside-down," but Dad, he just doesn't get it. And sharing... well, sometimes that's the pits! Guess I'll have to get used to it...

At least he puts on a good dinosaur puppet show:

AND Mommy made pizza for dinner. Aren't you jealous? (Don't worry, she made extra dough.)

Our after-dinner treat? Probably watching "Thomas." I miss you, Daddy! I can't wait to see you tomorrow!

Love,
Jack

Daddy Diary: Day 1

Dear Daddy,

Mommy and I decided that, while you are away with all your students for three days, we would keep a diary so you would know what we're doing during your trip. Today was fun! We drove to the Shell station so the men there could take a look at the leaky tire. Mommy and I walked to the park and played in the snow while they had the van. I still don't like the wood chips on the playground, but at least this time I didn't complain.

Back at the gas station, the owner showed Mommy the screw he'd taken out of her tire. Then he offered me a muffin. I gladly accepted, and even said, "please-thank-you." I ate the entire muffin on the car ride home, paper wrapper and all! Mommy just laughed and said it was her fault for not removing it first, then said I'd probably end up like that one kid in her sixth grade class who always ate paper. Nani Stefani told Mommy it would come out just fine. Kind of like T.T.'s dog Zack, when he eats stuff he shouldn't!

This afternoon, Mommy let me play in the yard with Casey. I had fun lifting up my police car, then knocking it down again. Then I chased Casey with my wheelbarrow. Mommy said that was O.K., since we were outside. All my clothes are filthy, but that to me is the sign of a really good day. See you Saturday!

Love,
Jack
